An email and SMS MCP server your agent runs end to end.
Sequence gives your AI agent 102 tools over the Model Context Protocol. It can set up a brand, write templates, build audiences, wire triggers, start sequences and read the results, all from one conversation.
Set up our new brand, verify the sending domain, and build a welcome series for everyone who signs up on the website.
What your agent does
- Step 1
create_team
Creates the brand
A brand holds its own contacts, sender, address and texting number. One account key works for every brand you own.
Excerpt of the call
{ "name": "Harbor & Pine", "from_name": "Harbor & Pine", "physical_address": "12 Dock St, Portland, ME 04101" } - Step 2
create_domain
Sets up your sending domain
Returns the DNS records to add at your registrar. Your agent verifies the domain once they are live.
Excerpt of the call
{ "name": "mail.harborandpine.com", "team": "harbor-pine" } - Step 3
upsert_template
Writes the emails and texts
Branded HTML or MJML emails and plain-text SMS, with tokens filled from each contact.
- Step 4
create_sequence
Wires the trigger
Website signups arrive as a lead.created event, so the welcome series starts the moment someone submits the form.
- Step 5
add_step
Lays out the timing
Each step is an email or a text, with a wait from the last step or a time anchored to a date.
- Step 6
get_sequence_stats
Reads the results
Opens, clicks, bounces and replies per step, for any date range, so your agent can tell you what is working.
The same job, without a builder.
Builder-style marketing tools make you assemble every piece by hand. With Sequence, your agent does the assembly from one sentence, and you review the result.
In a builder, you
- Drag text, image and button blocks into an email editor, one email at a time
- Draw a workflow canvas with waits and if/then branches
- Stack AND/OR rules to define who belongs in each segment
- Paste merge tags into every subject line and paragraph
- Click through settings for send windows, senders and unsubscribe links
With Sequence, you
Type one sentence. Your agent makes 6 calls:
- create_team
- create_domain
- upsert_template
- create_sequence
- add_step
- get_sequence_stats
What an MCP server is
MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is an open standard that lets an AI agent call tools in other software. An MCP server lists the tools it offers, and the agent decides which ones to call to finish the job you describe.
Sequence's MCP server covers the whole job of email and SMS marketing: brands, contacts, audiences, templates, sequences, broadcasts, texting numbers, sending domains, events and reports. Your agent does the setup that other tools make you click through.
Connect once, from the agent you already use
The server is hosted, so there is nothing to install. Claude Code and Codex connect with your account key. In claude.ai, ChatGPT and Codex you can sign in with OAuth instead, so the key never leaves your account.
Pick a brand on each call by passing its slug. One key covers every brand you own.
claude mcp add --transport http sequence \ https://setsequence.com/api/mcp \ --header "Authorization: Bearer cad_acct_…"Guardrails your agent cannot skip
The agent supplies content and settings. Sequence enforces the rules that keep sending safe, whatever the agent asks for.
- Compliance footer
- Your address and a one-click unsubscribe link go on every email at send time.
- Consent and quiet hours
- Sequences and broadcasts text only contacts who opted in to SMS, and hold texts until quiet hours end.
- Confirmed deletes
- Deleting contacts or a sequence with subscribers takes a second, explicit confirmation.
- Automatic pause
- A spike in complaints, bounces, unsubscribes or STOP replies pauses the brand and emails the owner.
Every tool, documented
The docs list every tool your agent can call, with its inputs. Each tool is also a REST endpoint under /api/v1 with the same key, so your own code can do anything your agent can.
Questions
Which AI agents work with Sequence?
Any client that supports remote MCP servers, including Claude Code, claude.ai, Codex, ChatGPT and Cursor. You can also call the REST API directly.
Does my agent need my password?
No. Agents connect with an account key you create in Settings, or sign in through OAuth in claude.ai, ChatGPT and Codex.
Can my agent send something without me seeing it?
Your agent can turn sequences on, so tell it how you want to work. A common setup is to ask for a preview and a test send to yourself before anything goes live.
Is there a REST API?
Yes. Every tool is a REST endpoint under /api/v1 that takes the same account key, plus an X-Cadence-Team header naming the brand.
