AI SMS marketing, in the same sequence as your email.
Ask your agent for a text the way you ask for an email. It writes the message, registers your business for US texting, buys a number and puts the text in the right step. Sequence handles consent, quiet hours and STOP replies on every send.
Register us for texting, get a local 512 number, and text new leads a two-line welcome before the first email goes out.
What your agent does
- Step 1
create_sms_sender
Registers your business for US texting
The carrier registration US texting requires (A2P 10DLC). It needs your EIN and your own privacy and terms pages. Your agent shows a preview and submits only when you confirm.
- Step 2
search_sms_numbers
Finds a local number
Buyable US numbers by area code, so texts come from a number your customers recognize.
- Step 3
upsert_template
Writes the text
Plain text with tokens. Sequence adds your business name and a STOP line to every message.
- Step 4
send_test_sms
Texts you a test
Shows how many segments the message uses and what it will cost before it goes to anyone.
- Step 5
add_step
Puts the text in the sequence
A text step sits between email steps, with its own wait.
The same job, without a builder.
Builder-style marketing tools make you assemble every piece by hand. With Sequence, your agent does the assembly from one sentence, and you review the result.
In a builder, you
- Sign up for a separate texting tool and import your list again
- Fill in carrier registration forms you have never seen before
- Keep text opt-outs and email unsubscribes in sync by hand
- Build the text flow in one tool and the email flow in another
- Check every send time against quiet-hour rules
With Sequence, you
Type one sentence. Your agent makes 5 calls:
- create_sms_sender
- search_sms_numbers
- upsert_template
- send_test_sms
- add_step
Text message marketing that follows the rules for you
Sequence checks consent before every text. A contact needs SMS consent for their current phone number, and a new number resets it. Landlines are skipped. Contacts without consent skip the text step and keep getting the emails.
Texts in sequences wait until 8 AM to 9 PM local time, worked out from the phone number's area code. Broadcast texts use a window that is safe across US time zones.
- STOP replies
- STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END and QUIT opt a contact out of texts only; their emails continue.
- Business name and STOP line
- Added to every text automatically, so no template can leave them out.
- Form consent
- Map your form's SMS checkbox to consent, with the exact value it must carry.
- Recorded evidence
- Consent you grant by hand or import is stored with the evidence you give.
Replies go to a shared inbox
When a customer texts back, the reply lands in Sequence's inbox, where your team answers from the same number. You can also copy incoming texts to an owner's phone with a link to reply in Sequence.
A reply can end the sequence for that contact, so nobody gets an automated follow-up after they have started a conversation.
What texting costs
Pro includes 500 texts a month and Scale includes 2,500. Extra texts are 2 cents each. A text is counted per segment: up to 160 plain characters, or 70 with an emoji. Carriers also charge a one-time registration fee and a monthly campaign fee of about $2 to $10, which Sequence passes through at cost.
Questions
Can I text outside the US?
No. Sequence texting is US-only.
Why do I need an EIN?
US carriers require business registration for marketing texts, and Sequence registers businesses with an EIN. Sole proprietor registration is not offered.
What happens when someone texts STOP?
They stop getting texts from that brand right away. Their emails are not affected.
Can my team reply to texts?
Yes, from Sequence's inbox, using the same number the text came from.
